The Ministry of Economy and Tourism (MoET) is the competent authority for registering and protecting intellectual property in the UAE. Trademark, copyright and patent services are handled through the applicable official channels.

Trademarks

Under Federal Decree Law No. 36 of 2021 on Trademarks, a trademark may include names, words, signatures, letters, figures, graphics, logos, titles, hallmarks, seals, pictures, patterns, announcements, packs and other distinctive marks used to distinguish goods or services.

Registration of a Trademark

Full fees, steps and timelines are in our UAE trademark registration guide.

Typical supporting documents can include the trademark representation, commercial licence where applicable, Power of Attorney, priority document where claimed, passport copy and other attachments depending on the applicant.

Who Can Register?

  • UAE citizens and natural or legal persons carrying on commercial, industrial, professional or service activities.
  • Foreign natural and legal persons carrying on qualifying business activities.
  • Applicants from countries applying the relevant reciprocity principles.
  • Other eligible legal persons under the applicable law.
